Ok, this post is breaking my own rules about writing about reality TV shows. I detest most all reality TV shows and I would never watch them of my own free will. My daughter and Wife v1.0 are always watching the talent shows like "So You Think You Can Dance" and "America's Got Talent" so when they started to watch yet another show called "The Voice", I quietly escaped to my computer in the other room to play some Halo.

But then I heard something I wasn't expecting, a voice so unique in its timbre and intonation, with this little gravelly break... a catch that was almost addictive. I had to go back to the livingroom to see who it was, just to be shocked to see a tiny little 16 year old girl, Xenia Martinez (Or just Xenia). She looked scared to death but I couldn't get enough of her voice, and I had my daughter rewind so I could hear the whole song.

It was that sudden, just like that I became a reality TV watcher and loyally watched The Voice solely to listen to Xenia. As addicting as her voice was, I quickly found out that her shy and genuine personality was just as addictive. I could easily see why Blake Shelton, her coach and kick-ass country singer, is so protective of her and acts like a proud papa when she sings.

I'm not much into country music but knew Shelton's reputation for being a bad boy jokester, and never expected him to be such a softie and support his team so much. I have nothing but respect for the man now and am actually following him online.

Dia Frampton was/is my second favorite contestant, because her voice does not fit into the typical template either. I knew it was going to be a close decision when it came time for one of the two to be eliminated.

I of course was devastated when Xenia was eliminated by the narrowest of margins in the round, yet happy that Dia was going on. That dichotomy is the only reason I didn't simply stop watching the show after Xenia's elimination, and will support Dia to win the Voice!

Three things are irrefutable, and they are that Xenia WILL get a recording contract... she WILL be a superstar.... and I WILL be buying any CDs she releases.

It is an extremely rare gift to have a voice that people can immediately recognize when you start to sing. Blake said it best when he stated that America was witnessing a star being born.
