Hey I'm hungry, let's play a game!

Went to see the Hunger Games movie last weekend just to see if it lived up to the hype. They had flooded all of the media channels to try to create an artificial sensation to rival Twilight and Harry Potter. This was turning me off on it, but I try to remain neutral until I see for myself.
The story is not a new one, and it has been told many times in books and in film, most recently with Battle Royale so I didn't expect anything too groundbreaking. I did however expect to be entertained.
I was pleasantly surprised that the movie did deliver on the entertainment. If you suspend belief in a few places, it was just that, an entertaining way to spend an afternoon.
The characters were likeable tho some of the interactions were slightly confusing and required you to assume a couple of things. But all in all it was a fun movie.
It is a little disturbing just because of the fact that children are killing children in it, so I would check your value system before allowing younger children to watch it.
The futuristic and repressed world they depict is dark but with that small spark of hope that you can see build throughout... leaving it open to an obvious sequel even if there weren't two other books in the series.
So all in all, this is a nice action/drama to watch with tinges of post apocalyptic war flavor thrown in. I would recommend you see it at least once. I dare you to not find a soft spot in your heart for Katniss.
